If you have been advised against annuities, keep in mind that a charitable gift annuity (CGA) is significantly different from a commercial annuity.

When alumni and friends express an interest in establishing CGAs, their decision usually begins with charitable intent, which is not the goal of commercial annuities.

Other ways they differ include:

  • There are NO FEES associated with a CGA.
  • A CGA is created with a very simple contract between you and the College.
  • Your benefits are made clear up front and there is no “fine print” that may bring surprises later.
  • The ultimate benefit at maturity is 100% used for the College’s benefit with no commercial profit.

Charitable gift annuities and the benefits they return to the donor make legacy gifts manageable for most alumni no matter what their financial circumstances may be.

For some donors, a charitable remainder trust may be a better option.
