Lafayette College looks quite different today than when the society was first created fifty years ago. Marquis Society gifts have supported the construction of new buildings and strengthened financial aid, academic departments, programs, and more. Last year, members contributed more than $18M to the College, accounting for 68 percent of all gifts.

The Marquis Society was originally named the President’s Committee in 1967 when President Roald Bergethon invited 52 members to join and support the College. In 1972, five years after its founding, the committee had grown to 131 members, and the name was changed to the Marquis Society. Today, the Marquis Society is comprised of nearly 2,000 members. In celebration of the vast impact that Marquis Society giving has had at the College, we look back at some of the many initiatives supported over the last fifty years.
