During this unprecedented time, Lafayette College is taking necessary measures to uphold the health and well-being of our entire community. With this in mind, we are adapting and embracing new ways of approaching our work while staying true to our mission.

Gifts to Lafayette are critical during this period of uncertainty. We are highly sensitive to the current financial constraints that many are experiencing, and deeply appreciate the continued generosity of our alumni, parents, and friends. If your circumstances allow, there are a variety of ways to support the College, which are outlined on our website.

While our staff is working remotely, we continue to gratefully accept gifts, with all receipts being sent by email. While we are maintaining an efficient receipting schedule, we do ask for your patience, as it is possible our processing may experience occasional slow downs at this time.

Lafayette is now, as we have always been, a community that comes together for one another.  Your generosity helps to ensure that we are able to remain nimble and the educational experience of our students remains of the utmost priority.  Thank you for your support and partnership.

Please review the list of FAQ’s below for information related to your specific area of inquiry.

Q: Can I support a special fund for students directly impacted by COVID-19?

A: Yes. Not unlike many others in our society, we have a number of students who are in jeopardy due to unexpected costs and challenges. We are actively working to prioritize and mitigate a range of different situations including support for students who needed to return home and could not afford last-minute plane fare, those who had to remain on campus due to a variety of circumstances, and those who face housing and/or food insecurity due to this crisis.

We currently have two emergency funds that provide direct support for our students. The Student Support Emergency Fund provides immediate support to our students through our annual fund. Because gifts made to this fund can be utilized in this fiscal year, it is the most impactful way to support students affected by the COVID-19 crisis. The James F. and Donna L. Krivoski Student Assistance Fund is an endowed fund which provides long term support for student needs, as they arise.

When you visit our online giving form, both the Student Support Emergency Fund and the James F. and Donna L. Krivoski Student Assistance Fund appear in the ‘Designations’ area of the page. Thank you for supporting our students at this critical time.

Q: What is the best way to give if I want to donate at this time?

A: It is preferred that donors who choose to give at this time please use our online donation form. While we strongly encourage you to complete your donation online, we understand that some individuals may want to send donations by mail. Checks made payable to “Lafayette College,” can be sent to: Development Office, Lafayette College, Box 3000, Easton, PA 18042.

Q: Is the Development Office open to receive drop-offs or in-person donations?

A: Please note that our office located at 307 Markle Hall is open from 8:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. However, we strongly encourage you to complete your donation online if at all possible. If you are unable to give online, you may still send donations by mail. If you would like to donate in person, or if a receipt for a previous gift is required urgently, please reach out directly to the Development Officer you have been working with or feel free to contact: Stephanie Hayes, Director of Executive Director, Campaign and Development Operations at hayess@lafayette.edu or 610-330-5929.

Q: If I am an employee or retiree of Lafayette, can I still give through payroll deduction?

A: Yes. You can set up your payroll deduction online or by mail. More information, including a payroll deduction form can be found on our Development webpage. If you have additional questions, please contact Stephanie Hayes, Director of Executive Director, Campaign and Development Operations at hayess@lafayette.edu or 610-330-5929.

Q: Is the student phonathon continuing to operate?

A: For those alumni and donors who have not yet received a phone call from a student this year, please note that our student phonathon program has been suspended until regular operations resume and the schedule permits for this activity to continue. If you would like to make your annual gift for this year, you can still do so online.

Q: What is the status of the fund I have established or support? Has my scholarship or prize/award already been awarded for 2019-20?

A: It is important to note that the large majority of scholarships for 2019-20 have been finalized and awarded. This work is primarily coordinated through our Financial Aid office, in conjunction with our Stewardship team. At this time, a decision on Honors Convocation, where we award many of our academic prizes and awards, is still pending. The College is tentatively planning to announce and distribute awards in May, albeit not in person, and to acknowledge and commemorate student awardees remotely.  Once the student award recipients are announced, our Stewardship team will prepare and mail update reports to donors. If you have a specific question about your fund(s), please reach out to the Development Officer you have been working with or feel free to contact: Megan Kintzer, Director of Donor Relations at kintzerm@lafayette.edu or at 610-330-3133.

Q: What is the status on endowment reports and other scheduled activities related to my giving/gift?

A: Stewardship reports for donated funds, including providing financial reports on your term and endowed funds remain on schedule. Many scheduled lectures and other development/donor events have been cancelled for the spring semester. If you have a specific question about the status of an event, or an initiative/award funded by your donation, please reach out directly to the Development Officer you have been working with or feel free to contact: Megan Kintzer, Director of Donor Relations at kintzerm@lafayette.edu or at 610-330-3133.

Q: Are there new tax laws as a result of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act?

A: Yes! The passing of the new Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act is part of the country’s response to help taxpayers, businesses, and nonprofits in these extraordinary times. The new law has a few key provisions that may affect you and your charitable goals, including:

  • A new charitable deduction
  • A change to required minimum distributions
  • An opportunity for those who itemize

The CARES Act provides some additional ways you can receive financial benefits and help Lafayette College. Please consult your tax advisor for specific information related to these new changes.
