Funds will endow three new professorships

A major gift from David M. Roth ’70 will create an endowment supporting three new professorships.

Roth, managing director of WLD Enterprises, Inc., a private investment firm headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., has pledged $6 million to establish the David M. ’70 and Linda Roth Professorship Fund. The fund will provide salaries, benefits, and stipends for travel and research for three faculty members.

Roth’s gift supports a key objective of the College’s new strategic plan: to build a truly outstanding faculty dedicated to the Lafayette model of education. The plan calls for increasing the overall size of the faculty by 35 positions (approximately 20 percent) without increasing the size of the student body.

A member of the College’s Board of Trustees, Roth is chair of the board’s Committee on Educational Policy and a member of the Easton Committee. He and his wife, Linda, have been members of the College’s Society d’Honneur since 1997. The Society was created by the Board of Trustees to recognize exceptional generosity by alumni, parents, and friends of Lafayette.

Roth graduated from Lafayette as a history major and holds a J.D. from the University of Virginia. He is chairman of the board of directors of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra.
